When we founded ZEITGENOSSEN (translates in English as ”contemporaries”), we wanted to research the fields of art, literature, science and new media and the actual characteristics of their complementary contents and their crossovers. The questions were, to which extent innovations might actually be capable of triggering cultural changes and which social values could be shaped by art as such?

In order to work between the disciplines, internal hierarchies need to be clarified. Are the sciences more valuable than literature? Should the new media be higher valued than the arts? Aren’t such valuations obsolete anyway? We took as a given that only the sum of different insights can provide additional knowledge. We were merging individual elements without disregarding their respective characteristics. Our interdisciplinary projects are therefor based on division of labour and understood as a work in progress.
